Before treatment

The procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are typically no
restrictions after the procedure that concern driving or returning to work. Our doctors are always available for consultation, should there be a problem after treatment.

Continue all medications for blood pressure, thyroid, diabetes, and any other conditions that are recommended by your physician. Any questions? Call our office before your appointment! Continue to eat normally before your appointment. If you have been advised by your dentists or physician to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, knee, hip, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your procedure.

Patients 18 years or under MUST be accompanied by a parents or legal guardian present for treatment.

After treatment

If your tooth or surrounding gum tissue is slightly tender for several days, that is normal and there is no concern for alarm. This happens because of a result of manipulation during treatment and the condition of your tooth before treatment. Do not chew food on the affected side of your mouth until your Endodontic therapy is complete and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your dentist. You can continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Please note that any discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin as directed.

NOTE: alcohol intake is not advised while taking the medications listed above. If there is any discomfort or swelling that is not solved with these medications, please contact our office immediately at 205-995-8200. Our office telephone is answered day and night! If you need to call after hours, please have your pharmacy number ready.
